The way we perceive things is often dominated
and limited by the boundaries of our childhood values and
beliefs – PRECONCEPTIONS. My work is about dispelling
these preconceptions. Traditional opposites – such as
black/white, birth/death, male/female, good/evil – are
unified by their dependence on each other.
This I do, using light and shadow, relating layers and/or
the 2D (shadow) with the 3D (object/mask) image. The archetype
of the shadow – as that of negativity and in which lurks
evil (the ‘darker side of one’) – is dispelled
and the shadow is elevated to a higher state of value. The
viewer can change their own perspective to see the greater
picture, or parts/details of it.
