The one unifying element conceptually throughout
Sue’s work has been spirituality. As she began to address
the spiritual in art Sue realized the challenge she faced
as an artist to depict that which cannot be seen with a medium
that requires of us the ability to see. Sue began to seek
out devices through which she could trigger awareness in the
viewer of the spiritual realm. She sought to create a sense
of presence, the weight of a significance that transcends
the physical nature of the medium.
It is not really the land that intrigues me so much, rather,
the lives of the people its presence suggests.
The concepts of eternity and timelessness and our existence
within the framework of time has always been a fascination
to her. We cannot function outside this framework and through
her images Sue suggests the transient nature of time and is
able to transcend its boundaries.
