My interest in art started many years ago,
with the smell of oil paint and turps in my father’s
workshop, but I didn’t start painting ‘seriously’
until around 1996. Now I work hard to put in the hours of
“brush mileage” to increase my skills.
My recent travels to Europe further enhanced my skills. My
paintings are held in public and private collections both
here and overseas. I am mostly self-taught. I paint directly
from life (rather than from photographs), whether in the landscape,
or from life models.
I have won several local “Highly Commended” art
awards as well as winning the Alfred Cove’s “Awards
of Excellence” two years running. Represented twice
in the Daler Rowney World Wide Art Competition, I was one
of 10 artists selected by the Alfred Cove Art Society to participate.
I won the Bayswater Council's Best Local Artist in 2004 and
was successful in being the "artist in residence"
in Bivongi, Italy in 2005. This is part of an artist exchange
programme between AM International in Italy, and City of Bayswater.
Also in 2005, I undertook an extensive art camping tour of
the Eastern States, travelling solo up the coast and painting
most days.
My paintings are colourful and alive, and my passion for
painting is evident. My travels and recent sales have provided
me with several commissions which I am currently undertaking.
